Refrigerated Compressor Air Dryer is the unit used to measure the dryness of the compressed air. At this temperature, the moisture present in the compressed air in vapor form condenses to form a liquid. Similarly, pressure dew point temperature and atmospheric dew point temperature are the two distinct temperatures of compressed air when under any kind of pressure and atmospheric pressure respectively. When we talk about the most advanced and cheapest mode of drying compressed air, refrigerated air dryers are quintessential.

Operation:

Warm compressed air enters the Air/Air heat exchanger where it is precooled by outgoing cold refrigerated air. Pre-cooling makes it possible to use a smaller (more economical) refrigeration Unit. Then the pre-cooled air enters the Air to Refrigerant heat exchanger where it is cooled down to +3° c. At this cool temperature, water condenses into liquid droplets, which are removed from the air stream by a very efficient Demister and automatically discharged to drain by a Trident Automatic drain valve. The cold dry compressed air passes back through the secondary side of the Air to Air heat exchanger where it is reheated by the incoming warm air. Reheating the outgoing compressed air increases the volume of the air enabling it to do more work and it also prevents downstream pipe sweating. Trident heat exchanger has no extended surfaces or sharp corners that collect dust, dirt or oil residue. Their self-cleaning smooth surface tube in shell and tube design will maintain the same heat transfer efficiency throughout the dryer's life. Any dust, dirt or oil will be washed from the air system along with the condensed moisture at the De-mister.

Principle of Operation:
  • The Blower Heat Reactivated Dryer works on the principle of Thermal swing. The desiccant adsorbs moisture from the compressed air to deliver dry air. The desiccant bed saturates over a period of time. The saturated bed is regenerated by heating with hot air generated using a blower. Hence the dryer is called blower heat reactivated desiccant dryer. Since the temperature of the bed swings between the compressed air temperature and the regeneration temperature it is called Thermal swing type. The hot air from the blower passed through a heater. This makes the air very dry. The hot air then heats up the desiccant bed. When the bed is heated it gives up the moisture adsorbed and is ready for adsorption. The hot air carries this moisture to the atmosphere. After the regeneration, heated desiccant bed is cooled by the flow of air to suit the application conditions. Final cooling is achieved by a no loss compressed air cooling method, resulting in a no Dewpoint spike system. Trident dryer comes with a dewpoint based control system as a standard. The tower changeover takes place only when the bed is saturated, resulting in energy saving and extended life. The dryer with its control valves and controller manages the drying, regeneration and repressurisation of the desiccant columns automatically and thereby delivering continuous dry compressed air. Blower Heat Reactivated Dryers are best suited for applications requiring large volume of compressed air at low dewpoint. For the above conditions the dryer works out very economical energy wise. Trident blower heat reactivated dryers are built from the start for customization. Since the air volume is large cusomisation delivers substantial energy savings.

Principle of Operation:
  • Drying Cycle : Moist air from the compressor is sent through the coalescing filter. Here water & oil coalesces and purges through the auto drain valve. The relatively clean air with water vapour passing through the aluminum drying tower filled with desiccant gets completely dried (up to -400C PDP) and then passes through a built in after filter (25 micron). The desiccant fines from the towers are completely removed and clean dry air is let out through the outlet port for use.
  • Regeneration Cycle: During the regeneration cycle, the sudden depressurisation brings out water molecule strapped in the Desiccant pores to the surface of the beads. A small portion of dry compressed air from the drying tower then passes over the desiccant through the regeneration orifice built in the Top Block. This results in complete regeneration of the Desiccant.

Principle of Operation:
  • Pre-Filtration: The moisture laden compressed air passes through the pre filter,here moisture load is reduced through coalescence. Condensation is removed through the drain valveADV1.At the oil filter oil vapours are emoved completely,small level of water condensation is purged through the valve ADV2.
  • Drying:The towers filled withActivated Alumina as desiccant (Molcular sieve available as option).When it gets completely dried, and passes through check valve and after filter. At the after filter, Desiccant fines are removed.Therefore dry compressed air passes out at the outlet.
